Entitled " The Family & The Business ", this nationwide survey was conducted in collaboration with renowned national management organisation, the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM).
In conducting this survey, we set out to explore the present scenario of family businesses in Malaysia, to further understand the characteristics of these companies and assess the management concerns, attitudes over the involvement of family members and their development plans amidst globalisation. We discovered that the three main concerns of business owners in Malaysia are succession, funding and professional management.

This research covers the views of business owners from 26 participating countries. In compiling the report, Grant Thornton set out to explore the business owners' attitudes to a range of contentious issues. For example, to what extent national culture affected attitudes to family involvement in the business, and whether attitudes varied according to the generation of the respondent. Another area explored was the issues that arise when the competing pressures of family and the business come into conflict.
