Grant Thornton honours Accountant General and First Accountant General

Kuala Lumpur, 19 July 2011 (as reported in Star Metro dated 23 July 2011): The Accountant General of Malaysia, YBhg Datuk Wan Selamah Wan Sulaiman and the First Accountant General of Malaysia, YBhg Dato’ Shamsir Omar were presented the Honour & Recognition Award by Grant Thornton in appreciation for their outstanding contribution towards the public accounting sector.

Country Managing Partner of SJ Grant Thornton, Dato’ N.K. Jasani and Grant Thornton International Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ed Nusbaum jointly presented the award at a dinner held in conjunction with Grant Thornton’s Regional Partners meeting. The ceremony was witnessed and attended by Managing Partners, CEOs and Directors from Grant Thornton Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Vietnam, Japan, USA, Australia and New Zealand.

“Apart from establishing a system for good governance in managing public funds while maintaining public interest, the Accountant General’s Department is responsible for the preparation of government accounts, including setting accounting standards and procedures and handling transactions and processing,” he continued.

Known as the leading lady of accountant in the Malaysian public sector, YBhg. Datuk Wan Selamah Wan Sulaiman, is a sheer role model, an evidence of how women are capable of holding high positions in an organisation.

Dato’ Shamsir Omar was the first Accountant General in Malaysia and has held the prestigious post for 22 years. After his retirement from the position, he was the Chairman of SJ Grant Thornton and has led the company to great heights of success. Dato’ N.K. Jasani is now the current Country Managing Partner of the firm providing assurance, tax, corporate finance, restructuring and other specialist services in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kuantan and Johor Bahru.
